Joongmin Lee · IvoryshifT
My practice moves between painting, kinetic installations, electronic control, the web and AI. I think of technology as an approach to the world, rather than a list of tools. I form hypotheses, change conditions and test them. The differences and failures I encounter become material for the next work.

The conditions that create color
Research direction · In planning
The research behind Structural painting practice continues through an interest in color produced by structure rather than pigment. One possible next step is calcium carbonate crystallization on a chitosan substrate. I plan to document actual experimental conditions and observations separately, within the limits of what I have confirmed.

Living systems and human-made systems
An ongoing question
A question that continues from 향일군락 is what becomes visible when the ways living organisms work are placed alongside the systems of a city. In web and game projects, I extend this question through the creation of rules and worlds.

How I keep a record
I connect questions raised by reading and looking, choices made during production, and results that differ from my expectations. I distinguish plans from outcomes and note why my thinking changes.

What this blog explores
I read architects’ work and cities, and explore where art and science meet. I am interested in the thinking and historical context behind architecture as much as its form. The Architects series is one focus of this growing collection.
Making is also part of the inquiry. I design game rules through conversations with AI and build imagined worlds on the web. Connecting observations, reading and experiments helps me make my questions more specific.
